How NAF's Airstrikes Wiped Out 12 Illegal Refineries in Abia and Rivers

In a major operation against illegal oil refining, the Nigerian Air Force has destroyed 12 illegal refineries in Abia and Rivers states. This decisive action, part of Operation Delta Safe, comes after a detailed surveillance operation uncovered these illicit sites. The airstrikes are intended to combat oil theft and mitigate environmental damage, with continued efforts promised until economic sabotage is minimized.

In a significant operation, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully destroyed 12 illegal refining sites across Abia and Rivers states. This action is part of Operation Delta Safe, aimed at addressing the rampant issue of oil theft and environmental degradation caused by unauthorized oil activities.
The operation, carried out on July 26, 2024, followed a detailed surveillance mission that identified several active illegal refineries sites. According to a statement from the Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Edward Buba, the airstrikes targeted and obliterated these sites to mitigate the impact of economic sabotage.

In Abia State, three illegal refineries sites were destroyed in Umueze after reconnaissance revealed their location within fenced residential areas. Further airstrikes were executed in Owaza, where three additional illegal sites hidden under dense vegetation were also dismantled.
Following the Abia operation, the NAF aircrew proceeded to Rivers State. There, they identified and destroyed nine illegal refining sites and two reservoirs in Komkom and Okoloma. This comprehensive action resulted in the total elimination of 12 refining sites and two reservoirs.

AVM Buba highlighted the sophisticated nature of these illegal operations, noting that their presence in residential environments poses severe risks to both human health and the environment. The NAF's efforts are part of a broader strategy to combat the illegal oil trade and its associated dangers.
He stressed that individuals involved in such activities should cease operations due to the substantial health and environmental hazards. The Nigerian Air Force is committed to continuing its operations until crude oil theft and other forms of economic sabotage are significantly reduced.
