Osun PDP Alleges IGP's Plot to Assassinate Governor Adeleke Amid LG Crisis | READ DETAILS

The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has made a shocking allegation, accusing the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, of orchestrating a plot to assassinate Governor Ademola Adeleke and destabilize the state.

In a world press conference held in Osogbo on Wednesday, Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, claimed that the IGP had deployed Police Special Forces to escort armed miscreants into local government council secretariats, a move he described as a "blatant coup" aimed at plunging the state into chaos and violence.

The allegations come amid the escalating local government crisis in Osun State, following attempts by sacked local government chairmen and councillors of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) to forcefully reclaim control of council secretariats.

This led to violent clashes on Monday, resulting in at least six deaths, including Remi Abass, the ousted chairman of Irewole Local Government Area, who was killed in Ikire town.

Bisi revealed that Governor Adeleke had been making efforts to restore peace through dialogue with the IGP, but was met with brazen hostility.

"This is not just a security breach; it is a well-orchestrated plan to eliminate our governor and pave the way for an illegal takeover of the state," Bisi declared.

The PDP strongly believes that the APC is desperate to reclaim Osun State after being voted out in 2022, and is now using the police force as a political weapon to achieve its goal.

"The desperation to take over the state through any means possible has been clear since they lost the election. Now, with police backing, they are willing to kill to achieve their aim," Bisi stated.

He also accused the IGP of bypassing Governor Adeleke in responding to the crisis, questioning why Egbetokun allegedly took a stance on a recent court judgment without consulting the state government.

"Why did Egbetokun sidetrack Governor Adeleke before taking a position on the court ruling? Why is he violating security protocols and emboldening troublemakers?" Bisi queried.

The PDP further alleged that the violence and police intervention were part of a larger plot to disrupt the upcoming local government elections scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2025.

"The IGP is ready to bend the rules and allow killings of our people just to prevent the elections from taking place. Osun State will not be intimidated by anyone, not even by an IGP whose tenure has been controversially extended," Bisi stated.

The party has called on Nigerians and the international community to hold the IGP accountable should anything happen to Governor Adeleke.
