Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has formally congratulated the National Caretaker Committee of the Labour Party, led by Senator Nenadi Usman (Chairman) and Senator Darlington Nwokocha (Secretary), following their major court victory at the Federal High Court in Abuja, a judgement many political observers say could finally bring an end to the long-running leadership crisis that nearly tore the party apart.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, January 22, 2026, Governor Otti described the judgement as timely, heartwarming, and historic, noting that it has opened the door for the long-awaited reorganisation, peace, and unity within the Labour Party.

The Federal High Court ruling affirmed the legitimacy of the Nenadi Usman-led National Caretaker Committee, aligning fully with an earlier Supreme Court judgement that effectively terminated the tenure of the previous national leadership, a development that has now reshaped the balance of power within the opposition party.

Reacting to the judgement, Governor Otti said the ruling offers a fresh opportunity for the party to rebuild itself into a disciplined, democratic, and formidable political force capable of winning elections and delivering good governance across Nigeria.

"This victory is both heartwarming and timely as it provides us with the opportunity of ensuring that peace, order and unity return to the party, while ensuring reorganisation and rejuvenation of the party to become a truly democratic party that meets the high expectations of its members," Otti said.

He added that the party must now move beyond internal crises and focus on building structures that reflect justice, inclusion, and respect for party constitution, warning that the Labour Party cannot afford another round of self-inflicted wounds.

In a clear political signal, the Abia Governor called on individuals and groups behind the multiple litigations against the party to sheathe their swords, urging them to respect the court's decision just as they would expect their own victories to be respected.

Otti assured aggrieved members of forgiveness and reintegration, provided they are willing to turn a new leaf and operate within the law and party constitution.
