PAY YOUR TAX, GOV. IKPEAZU URGE ABIANS

The people of Abia state have been called up on to pay their taxes as it is a means of increasing the state Internally Generated Revenue.

The Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu made this call during a courtesy visit by the Prelate and moderator for the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, in Government House today where he stated that the average collection of the Internally Generated Revenue hovers between four hundred to six hundred million Naira monthly and further charged the Prelate of the Presbyterian Church and other churches in the state to encourage its members to ensure they pay their taxes to the appropriate channels as and when due as is legally specified so as to improve the state's IGR.

The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu gave assurance of his commitment to the welfare of the people in the payment of salaries and pension, infrastructural development and also ensuring the sustenance of high level of security in the state.

He also expressed his delight at the readiness of the church to partner with the state government as it will further strengthen the ties of friendship and partnership between the government and the church, while promising to do his best to ensure the people of Abia state get the dividends of democracy and also solicited for prayers from the church and thanked them for their partnership and belief in the Ikpeazu-led administration.

Speaking earlier, the Prelate and moderator for the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, his Eminence Nzie Nsi Eke congratulated the Governor for his magnanimous victory in the 2019 polls and prayed for God's wisdom and boldness to pilot the affairs of the state.

He assured of the readiness and willingness of the church to partner with the government and contribute its quota to the wellbeing of the people.

The Prelate urged the Governor to involve the traditional rulers in tackling security challenges as they are more closer to the people and further urged for his intervention in the plight of the people in the areas of timely payment of salaries and pensions as and when due while thanking him for fulfilling his promise to the church.

Highlight of the visit was the prayers made on behalf of the State government by the Prelate.
