Labour Party's presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his vow to serve only one term of four years if elected President of Nigeria, describing the pledge as "sacrosanctÔÇØ and rooted in his belief that purposeful leadership does not require an eternity in office.

In a strongly worded statement, Obi drew inspiration from Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, and Nelson Mandela, noting that their legacies were defined by impact, not tenure length. He contrasted their examples with the African trend where leaders cling to power, often to the detriment of governance and public trust.

Obi acknowledged widespread public scepticism about political promises, citing recent remarks questioning his sincerity and even suggesting psychiatric evaluation for anyone pledging a single term.
