Edo Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu resumed office after a court reinstated him, following his impeachment. Shaibu warned staff to return to work and cautioned banks against unauthorized transactions.

Philip Shaibu, the embattled Deputy Governor of Edo State, resumed his official duties on Monday, following a turbulent period marked by his impeachment and subsequent reinstatement. Shaibu's return to office comes after the Appeal Court in Abuja overturned his impeachment by the Edo State House of Assembly, a move that had been driven by his conflict with Governor Godwin Obaseki.

In a video posted on X, Shaibu announced his official resumption, stating, "In adherence to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, I announce my official resumption to the office. God Bless Edo State, God Bless Nigeria."
Philip Shaibu wasted no time in reasserting his authority, directing all his staff to resume their duties at the Office of the Deputy Governor. He issued a stern warning that any staff member who failed to comply would face severe consequences. The Deputy Governor emphasized that the court's judgment had affirmed that his office was never vacant, thereby nullifying any administrative decisions made in his absence.

Additionally, Shaibu warned financial institutions against conducting any transactions with his office without his express approval, labeling such actions as illegal. His return to Edo was overshadowed by the tragic killing of a police officer attached to the Edo APC governorship candidate. Shaibu expressed his sorrow over the incident and noted that the suspects have been apprehended.

Moreover, Philip Shaibu revealed that he has sought the governor's approval to reinstate his aides but is yet to receive a response. His resumption marks a significant chapter in the ongoing political drama in Edo State, as Shaibu reclaims his position despite strong opposition.
