Why APC Postponed Planned Membership Validation/Registration Exercise

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has postponed its planned nationwide membership validation and registration exercise.

The National Secretary of the Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary National Convention Planning Committee, John Akpan UdoUdehe made this known on Thursday at the party's National Secretariat in Abuja.

He explained that the exercise, which earlier scheduled to kick off on Saturday, December 12, 2020 has now been shifted to the second week of 2021.

UdoUdehe noted that the decision to postpone the programme is to ensure participation of all party members in the light of the fast-approaching Christmas and new year activities which Christian members of the party will be fully involved in.

The statement apologized and appealed for understanding on the part of all those who may be affected by the change in plans.

He said, "On account of several factors however, including the fast-approaching Christmas and End of Year celebrations; as well as the interest of our Christian members; and the objective of ensuring maximum participation, the CECPC has decided to shift the date of the Exercise to the second week of January 2021.

"The CECPC sincerely regrets any inconveniences that may arise out of the change in date; but appeals for the understanding of our teeming members and the general public, in the interest of preparing a solid foundation for a successful Exercise.

Meanwhile, AFNews reports the senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ibrahim Tudu, in Bakura constituency supplementary election has been declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission as the winner of the election.

The Returning Officer of the commission, Prof. Yahaya Tanko, noted that Tudu polled 23,874 votes to win the election.

It will be recalled the All Progressives Congress announced its plan to boycott the electoral process.
