In a decisive move, the Labour Party (LP) has suspended Senator Kevin Chukwu, who represents Enugu East Senatorial Zone, over alleged anti-party activities and insubordination. The suspension, issued by Chukwu's Amurri Ward executives in Nkanu West Local Government Area, is set for 90 days and underscores tensions within the party ranks.

According to a letter signed by Comrade Chika Okoh on behalf of the Labour Party Executive Council of Amurri Ward, Senator Chukwu's suspension follows what party leaders describe as repeated instances of "insubordination" and disregard for party principles. The letter, addressed to the Enugu State Labour Party Chairman and copied to the Local Government Chairman, detailed Chukwu's alleged misconduct.

We, the members of the Executive Council of the Labour Party, Amurri Ward, Nkanu West LGA, hereby formally notify you...of your suspension from the Labour Party for a period of 90 days, effective from the date of this notification, and/or the date of your receipt of this notice.ÔÇØ

It further states: "This resolution has been passed as a result of your acts of insubordination to the leadership of the party, your involvement in anti-party activities, and your failure to adhere to the party's principles.ÔÇØ

The party leadership claims that Senator Chukwu declined multiple requests to address these allegations and has "failed to avail himself of the opportunity to be heard," which reportedly led to the decision to suspend him from the party.
