In a stunning twist that could further tear apart Nigeria's main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has declared a total withdrawal from all reconciliation agreements reached with PDP governors and stakeholders-citing "serial betrayalÔÇØ and deliberate sabotage of peace deals.

Wike, in a personally signed statement titled "PDP Crisis: My PositionÔÇØ, accused Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of being the "chief architect" of the current turmoil rocking the party. He also fingered Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah in what he described as a coordinated attempt to undermine the leadership of the party and renege on binding political agreements.

The former Rivers State governor narrated how, following the 2023 general election defeat, the PDP has been "swinging from one slippery precipice to another,ÔÇØ mainly due to dishonesty and a breach of trust by some leaders. To stabilize the party, Wike said high-level meetings were convened by the G5 governors, first in Lagos and then in Abuja.

"In Lagos, I told Governor Makinde to his face that he was the architect of our problems and that his refusal to abide by agreements was destroying the party. We resolved to move forward, but he turned around and violated the same agreements,ÔÇØ Wike stated.

According to him, a follow-up meeting held at Senator Bukola Saraki's guest house in Abuja-which had present PDP governors Bala Mohammed, Umaru Fintiri, and Makinde-was also aimed at resolving internal issues. Although tensions rose during the meeting, resolutions were reportedly reached, including the recognition of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the authentic National Secretary of the party based on a Supreme Court judgment.

Broken Agreements, Manipulation, and Internal Sabotage

Wike said it was resolved that all court cases relating to Rivers State should be withdrawn, the emergency rule suit should be dropped, and no stakeholder should deviate from the agreed resolutions. Despite these, Wike revealed that Makinde and Mbah launched a fresh campaign to unseat Anyanwu through a controversial South-East leaders' meeting, where they threatened to quit the party if Udeh Okoye wasn't adopted as secretary.

"They even manipulated the National Secretariat by pushing for the Deputy National Secretary to act as National Secretary in open violation of our agreement. This led to an illegal NEC meeting call and fake rebuttals to official documents signed by the legally recognized party leaders,ÔÇØ Wike disclosed.

He added that the charade reached a breaking point on May 24, 2025, during a zonal elective congress in Jos. The congress was aborted after INEC refused to attend, stating that the letter inviting them was improperly signed by the Deputy National Secretary instead of Anyanwu, the rightful signatory.

Wike described the situation as "provocative, annoying, and distasteful,ÔÇØ adding that such open disregard for legality and unity would not benefit the PDP or its ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.

The FCT Minister further expressed frustration over what he sees as the betrayal of trust by the very people he supported politically.

"I have not made any personal demands on any of these governors despite helping most of them win elections. It's sad that the trust I expected is completely absent. I've now firmly decided to pull out of all agreements hitherto reached and will fight on until justice is attained,ÔÇØ he declared.

With this development, Wike's next moves could either mark the beginning of a new political realignment-or spell deeper crisis within the PDP, which is already struggling with post-election losses, internal litigation, and regional power tussles.
