Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has fired a heated broadside at former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, accusing him of deception and power desperation following Amaechi's recent claim of being "hungryÔÇØ as an opposition figure.

Amaechi, during his 60th birthday celebration, stated:

"We're all hungry, all of us are. If you're not hungry, I am. If you want us to remove the man in power, we can remove him.ÔÇØ

The statement sent shockwaves across Nigeria's political space, interpreted by some as a veiled threat against President Bola Tinubu's administration and an attempt to position himself once again at the center of national politics.

But Wike, Amaechi's longtime political rival, didn't hold back during a media briefing in Abuja on Monday, calling the comment "nonsenseÔÇØ and describing Amaechi's hunger as a thirst for relevance and power-not food.

"He was Speaker from 1999 to 2007, Governor from 2007 to 2015, and Minister from 2015 to 2023. When did he ever speak about hunger?ÔÇØ Wike said.

"Now that he is out of power, he claims to be hungry. What he's hungry for is not food, but power. This is a man who couldn't even deliver 25% in an election despite being campaign DG.ÔÇØ

Wike further mocked Amaechi for allegedly joining forces with PDP's Atiku Abubakar in a new political coalition:

"Let them start their new movement from Rivers State first. He's forming coalitions and shouting hunger because he's lost control. Is it through a military coup they plan to remove the president?ÔÇØ

Wike warned Nigerians not to be misled by recycled politicians trying to exploit public hardship for their own agenda:

"From 1999 to 2023, he held power in one form or another. Now he wants to play the victim? Nigerians are not fools. He's only hungry for what he's lost - power.ÔÇØ

This verbal slugfest is the latest in the long-standing rivalry between the two Rivers-born political heavyweights. With Amaechi allegedly spearheading a new coalition to challenge the APC in 2027, Wike's fiery rebuke may just be the opening salvo of a fresh political battle.
