Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has raised alarm over an alleged plot by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, to incite chaos in the state. Adeleke claimed that Oyetola is working in collaboration with top security officials to enforce a controversial court order that could spark widespread unrest.
Addressing a press conference on Sunday, February 16, 2025, Adeleke alleged that Oyetola, a former governor of the state, is orchestrating a move to unlawfully reinstate local government chairmen elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) despite a subsisting court judgment that removed them from office.

According to Adeleke, the plot, set to unfold from Monday, February 17, 2025, involves the active participation of the Osun State Commissioner of Police, the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Adeleke did not mince words in his accusations, stating that the planned disruption is a desperate attempt to subvert the rule of law and impose an illegal administration at the local government level.

"I called this press conference to alert the national and global audience about a deliberate plot to create chaos and anarchy in Osun State,ÔÇØ Adeleke declared. "This evil plot is being spearheaded by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, in active collaboration with the Osun State Commissioner of Police, the Director of DSS, and the State Commandant of the Civil Defence Corps.ÔÇØ

The governor emphasized that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a democrat who upholds the rule of law and would never support such unconstitutional actions.

"I know Mr. President as a believer in the sanctity of the judicial process. He will not authorize a dictatorial violation of the constitution irrespective of who is involved,ÔÇØ Adeleke stated.

He further alleged that Oyetola, who is related to President Tinubu, is exploiting this connection to push security agencies into enforcing an illegitimate order.

"He is issuing illegal directives to security operatives to enforce illegality simply because he is the nephew of Mr. President,ÔÇØ Adeleke charged. "I chose to alert the nation before my people are killed or maimed by a minister dropping the name of Mr. President in connivance with Osun State security operatives who are obeying unlawful orders.ÔÇØ

At the center of the crisis is a disputed court order regarding the status of local government chairmen in Osun State. Adeleke explained that the affected officials were removed from office through a legitimate court ruling before he assumed office as governor.

"The bone of contention is the brazen effrontery to return to office council chairmen sacked by a subsisting court judgment using a different court decision, which has no consequential order,ÔÇØ Adeleke clarified.

He refuted claims that his administration was responsible for the chairmen's removal, stating: "Let me make it clear that the said council chairmen were sacked before I was sworn in as governor of Osun State, contrary to the lies being peddled that they were sacked by my Executive Order.ÔÇØ

Governor Adeleke called on the federal government, civil society organizations, and the international community to closely monitor the unfolding situation and intervene before the alleged plot plunges Osun into crisis.
"I urge President Tinubu, security agencies, and all democratic institutions to ensure that Osun State is not thrown into chaos by desperate politicians,ÔÇØ Adeleke appealed. "The peace and stability of our state must not be sacrificed for political interests.ÔÇØ
