The Labour Party (LP) is facing a fresh wave of internal conflict as its Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, and the only sitting governor of the party, Dr. Alex Otti, have moved to reshape the party's leadership by endorsing the appointment of ex-Minister of Finance, Senator Nenadi Usman, as the new caretaker chairperson.

However, the embattled National Chairman of the Labour Party, Barrister Julius Abure, has rejected the appointment, insisting he remains the legitimate leader of the party. Abure, through a statement signed by National Publicity Secretary Obiora Ifoh, condemned the emergence of Nenadi Usman as illegal and unconstitutional, describing the Abia meeting as "mischievous."

He criticized Governor Otti's decision to convene the meeting, claiming it lacked proper communication from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Abure further challenged Otti to provide any official correspondence from INEC regarding the matter, asserting that the newly appointed committee is not recognized by the party's constitution and accusing its leaders of being outsiders. "The so-called chairman of the caretaker committee is not a registered member of our party. She only emerged during Peter Obi's presidential campaign," Ifoh added.
