Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has made a shocking revelation, declaring that the prolonged political battle with his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, ultimately led to his freedom to govern the state independently.

Fubara, who has been at loggerheads with Wike over control of the state's political structure, stated that despite efforts by President Bola Tinubu and other stakeholders to broker peace, the crisis persisted - but in the end, it worked in his favor.

He made the declaration while receiving the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba, alongside bishops of the church, at the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt.

Addressing his guests, Governor Fubara openly appreciated Primate Ndukuba's earlier attempts to mediate between him and Wike, noting that despite those efforts failing, the crisis turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

"When the crisis started, as a man of God who believes that both parties (myself and Wike) are from his communion, he made several calls and booked appointments, but none were granted," Fubara recounted.

According to him, the political turmoil that engulfed Rivers State forced a shift in power dynamics, ultimately allowing him to break free from what many perceived as Wike's overbearing political influence.

"God has a way of doing His things. Maybe if we had gotten peace earlier, I wouldn't be enjoying the freedom that I am enjoying today," the governor said, suggesting that his administration might have remained under tight control had the crisis not escalated.

The feud between Fubara and Wike has been one of the most heated political battles in Nigeria in recent times. Wike, widely seen as the architect of Fubara's emergence as governor, had been accused of attempting to maintain a stronghold over Rivers State, leading to a power tussle that divided the political landscape.

Despite attempts by President Tinubu to mediate and restore peace, tensions persisted, with Fubara's supporters arguing that the governor was being suffocated by the influence of his predecessor.

However, Fubara now believes that the crisis, though unpleasant, has helped him gain political independence.

The Rivers governor further reflected on how turbulent situations can sometimes lead to positive outcomes.

"Sometimes, God allows trouble so that peace can come," Fubara noted, adding that while peace is always the best option, there are moments when conflict is necessary to bring about true stability and progress.
