The deepening crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a new twist as the embattled National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has come out to expose the hidden forces orchestrating his removal from office.

In an exclusive interview with Vanguard, Anyanwu revealed that certain PDP leaders were determined to push him out due to his insistence on due process, respect for the rule of law, and his long-standing relationship with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike.

According to him, some leaders from the South-East region view him as an obstacle to their political ambitions, particularly their bid to take control of the party structure.

"A Calculated Attempt to Sideline Me"

Anyawu, who was elected as National Secretary at a duly convened national convention, stressed that the party's constitution clearly outlines the process for removing an official from the National Working Committee (NWC). He dismissed attempts to force his resignation as illegal, revealing that while he was contesting the governorship of Imo State, some individuals within the party forged documents to alter PDP guidelines in a bid to compel his resignation.

"It was strange that while I was campaigning, some people went as far as forging documents, illegally inserting a clause that is not in the original party guidelines to say I must resign. The police are investigating this, so I won't say much on that,ÔÇØ he stated.

Anyanwu further emphasized that his relationship with Chief Nyesom Wike dates back to their time as local government chairmen and PDP loyalists.
"Everybody knows my relationship with Wike. We were local government chairmen and members of the PDP; I cannot deny him,ÔÇØ he added.

The embattled National Secretary did not hold back in his revelations, accusing some PDP governors and a faction of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of conspiring against him to weaken the party for selfish interests. He described the push for Sunday Udeh-Okoye's immediate swearing-in as National Secretary, following a Court of Appeal judgment, as a "proxy warÔÇØ fueled by internal divisions.

The PDP has remained divided between loyalists of Wike and those supporting former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. The fallout from the party's 2023 presidential primary, which saw Atiku defeat Wike, deepened the crisis. Wike's allies, including several then-governors, felt betrayed and retaliated by undermining Atiku's campaign.

The infighting escalated further when Wike and his successor, Rivers State Governor Siminalaye Fubara, became embroiled in a separate political feud. Anyanwu and PDP's acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, have been perceived as pro-Wike, making them primary targets of their political opponents.

"Wait Till My Tenure Ends," Anyanwu Tells Opponents

Anyanwu advised those eager to replace him to wait until the expiration of his tenure in December 2025 and contest for the position during the party's next national convention. He dismissed the endorsement of Udeh-Okoye by the PDP Governors Forum as an attempt to circumvent due process.

During their recent meeting in Asaba, Delta State, the PDP Governors Forum threw their weight behind Udeh-Okoye, citing an Enugu Court of Appeal ruling recognizing him as the rightful National Secretary. Their stance was subsequently backed by the BoT, which adopted the recommendations of a committee led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN). The committee advised that Udeh-Okoye be immediately sworn in based on the court judgment.

Despite these endorsements, Anyanwu remains resolute, insisting that due process must be followed.
